Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal Mrs. Cardinal So many cardinals live in my yard. My 70-foot spruce in the front yard is home to many nests up and down its span, and my neighbors have some shaggy spruces too. All winter long the cardinals brighten the days, but in spring mating and building a home starts in earnest and until there’s egg and baby duty they rove looking for food at the feeders and the native plants I’ve left standing for the seeds they bear and the insects they house.
