Unexpected Petunia

Unexpected Petunia

An unexpected petunia is welcome nonetheless!

I don’t have much flower color yet. My four geraniums that I keep from year to year have been blooming pretty abundantly (and I just took cuttings to start more plants), and I have a verbena left from last year, but aside from the perennial and biennial native plants like feverfew and forget-me-not and cranesbill geraniums, long done blooming, I have to wait for the seeds I planted to start producing some blooms.

I mixed up potting soil from all the pots that still had some, packed it into various pots and let it sit months ago, and some of them sprouted things. I’d been watching this seedling grow into a small plant and wondering what it might be, and it turned out to be a mini petunia, like a calibrachoa. I haven’t had any here for a couple of years so that seed has been waiting! I can’t wait to see it grow to full bloom. I’m going to hang it with one of the hummingbird feeders.

And I needed something new to photograph!
