Sun Pillar, and Ross Colonial Cemetery

I was out chasing sunsets again, in a completely different place, but I found myself on a hill seeing the sunset from a lovely vantage point. After a few photos that I liked I was about to leave then saw the clouds redden and a new view of the sunset form.

Just after the sun set I saw a phenomenon known as a sun pillar, where the sun shines up through ice crystals in the atmosphere. You can read more about it here: https://earthsky.org/earth/what-is-a-sun-pillar

The hill and clouds were beautiful and I couldn’t find a vantage without a tree, but this particular graceful tree added so much to the photo that I couldn’t imagine it any other way.

Just a few minutes prior to this I was photographing the sunset through Ross Colonial Cemetery.
