Yellow Water Iris Three water iris A trio of the yellow water iris blooming right now, with lots of buds for future irises. I was sure when I moved these in 2020 it was a mistake. I forgot they prefer damper, even wet, conditions, which I do have at the end of my yard where they were. But they rarely bloomed where they were by that time so I decided to move them to a sunnier area, and a spot where I’d love some yellow in spring, or any time of year. And all my tough old traditional purple, pink, white and yellow bearded irises I’d planted when I moved here disappeared, so I was glad to still have at least one iris, even if not the same species. That year they sat there, the next year they came up but did not bloom. I realized my mistake and decided to move them to a wetter spot but didn’t get to it. The next spring they came up early and developed buds. Now they are increasing. I’m not sure why, this is not a wet area of the yard, but I guess they are happy. I think I’ll have to keep them under control so I’ll be moving some this year. In the meantime their brilliant color is exciting to see each day they bloom. Yellow Water Iris . . . . . . .
