Not Finished

My Job is Not Finished

Softest green faded to ochre,
supple stems floated in autumn breezes
now sere and brittle,
no life is left here,
still its work is not finished
for it carries the seeds of tomorrow
tucked safely at the base of
short spines,
each waiting
to feel the embrace
of damp spring soil
to release the life
within.
