Mrs. Finch Feeds Her Family Mrs. Finch Feeds Her Family Last year a pair of robins built a nest on the front porch, the first time I’ve had a nest there. They didn’t return but a house finch couple did. Despite the fact the dedicated parents fed their kids practically every five minutes, and I loved hearing the little ones eagerly cheeping as their parent returned, the spot the nest is in is incredibly difficult to photograph, a dark corner just below the roof with the sky glaring just outside the roof, and I only got a few decent photos of their activity. I could lighten up this one just enough to see four mouths pointing up at mom. But they provided my cats and me lots of interesting entertainment, watching another species going about life That decorative ring around the top of the nest that looks like baby’s breath? That’s tiny mushrooms! It’s been so damp, and the birds must have brought up some composted leaves or grass and mushroom spores also found the dark and damp spot to raise a family, of sorts. . . . . . . .
