Facing the Future Facing the Future The future is unknown for humans and flowers alike. This periwinkle flower blooms on a tall stem raised like a flag from the leaf litter of last year, yet aside from rising out of the soil and blooming it has little control over its future. It may become a meal for a hungry animal, it may freeze when the weather changes, it may be smashed underfoot, even by me, if I wasn’t actively looking for flowers I didn’t want to step on in my back yard. Nonetheless, her nature leads her to this commencement, from potential to reality. Because of this, we have periwinkle flowers that bloom each spring. . . . . . . . Follow me on Instagram.
