Waitin’ for a Train

Waitin' for a Train
Waitin’ for a Train

When a train comes into your sight, you have to photograph it. That’s the rule.

I was waitin’ for a train, but not to hop onto it, just to photograph it. Walking down Main Street from the right I cross a bridge over Chartiers Creek and can clearly see this whole track as it rolls along at the top of the bank along the creek, so I knew it was coming. I am standing near the end of the bridge and you can see the tracks curve off to the left where they cross Main Street and continue along the top of the bank of the creek for another block or two. After that they travel along a side street behind businesses with buildings on both sides.

This track has been in use for well over a century, traveling along the creek about 30 miles south, then returning, two trains a day, at least. I am always aware of the typical train schedules and listen for oncoming trains, and know that they are required to reduce their speed to between five and 15 MPH so I have time to get to safety if I need to.
