May Asters Greet You Along Your Walk

The evening woods are dim but little blue stars lean over the trail to guide me as I walk the trail to the creek.

“Aster” is the Latin word for “star.” This variety of asters, Symphyotrichum cordifolium, is also known as wood aster, blue wood aster, heart-leaved aster and many more common names. It grows in dense clumps in sunny areas, looser clusters in shady places. All the better so see each one. As the flowers age, the yellow central disk turns bronze.
