Peace Garden

You just never know where you’ll stumble upon Peace, Hope, Faith, Love and simple beauty.

At the Holy Family Institute on the North Side the community planted and decorated, and maintains, an empty lot with vegetables and native plants and a Peace Garden Wall illustrating van Gogh’s “Irises” in individual hand-painted panels, surrounded by a colorful picket fence draped with purple morning glories.

Summer was ghastly hot and the planters of tomatoes and peppers and annual flowers were pretty tired but still colorful while the native plants were in their glory. I could have spent a whole day there photographing (especially if I’d had my DSLR with me instead of just my smartphone), admiring the plants, watching the sun move, and reading from the Little Free Library. Below are more photos from my visit.
