A Study in Contrasts

We had a break in the snowfall and clouds today in the late afternoon.

The light is more golden tending toward tangerine on a day when snow still flies in the air, and this warm light enriches all it touches, so intense that it enhances the blue tones in the shadows. The building’s bricks really are orange, but the sunlight deepens the tone, contrasting with the cerulean of the sky reflected in the window.

And the random shadows of the tree trunks and branches are broadcast clearly on the building and Victorian stone scrollwork in the window pediments and fascia about the roof, patterened to mimic natural forms, an dinteresting contrast of order and chaos.
